Beverly Anne Melville – 11/12/1934 – 5/10/2024
Beverly Melville, lifelong resident of Locke Mills, Maine passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024.
Beverly, aka Bev, Mimi, Grammy, Great Grammy and Great, Great Grammy was born 11/12/1934
daughter of Ida and Merle Lurvy. She married Richard in 1953 and they built their home on the “Knoll”.
Bev and Dick celebrated their 70 th wedding anniversary in 2023.
Beverly graduated as valedictorian from Gould Academy and University of Maine at Farmington. She
was an English teacher at Rumford High School, Berlin High School in New Hampshire, and Telstar
Regional High School where she retired in 1996. She also taught English Comp at the University of
Maine in Farmington. Bev was a member of the Jackson Silver Unit #68, American Legion Auxiliary,
where she served as president, and organized the Melodettes, a double quartet group. She was also a
member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Eastern Star, and Greenwood Historical Society.
Bev was very dedicated to the Locke Mills Union Church where she served as Sunday school teacher,
trustee, organist, and choir director for over 60 years. Here she was a member of the Lady’s Circle. She
organized and directed the Christmas Cantatas and hosted “Pie Night”. Beverly loved to help organize
the Strawberry, Blueberry and Apple festivals using her culinary skills to make doughnuts, pies, and
other delicious goodies.
Bev and Dick loved to travel and took trips to England, Spain, Germany, China, Canada, Hawaii, and
California. They enjoyed camping and often took their grandchildren on camping trips to Camden Hills.
Bev was an amazing knitter, and her family enjoyed many homemade sweaters, socks, and mittens. She
was also an accomplished weaver and artist. Besides Dick, the loves of her life were her Bouvier dogs.
Beverly is survived by her children, son Dana and wife Mary, and daughter Nancy. She also leaves
behind 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild as well as many nieces,
nephews, and special friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband Richard and her
brother Roy.
The family wishes a heartfelt thank you to all her relatives, friends and neighbors who brought joy into
her life. A special thank you to the staff at Clover Manor and Androscoggin Hospice. A memorial service
will be held this summer.
