Eleanor H. Davis, 86, died November 18, 2024 in Rumford. She was born January 2, 1938 to Roland B. Hunter and Margaret Mason Hunter Holmes of Strong, ME.

Eleanor attended local Strong elementary schools, and graduated from Strong High School in 1955. She was a member of the local 4H club and enjoyed creating recipes for 4H competitions. After graduation, she attended nursing school in Boston and earned an LPN degree. At nursing school, she met Norman Davis as he returned home from basic training. They married on August 15, 1959, and lived in Newry.

Eleanor was a stay at home mom for several years and then worked for Roberts Poultry Farm in Bethel, the U.S. Post Office and Sunday River Ski Resort. As a young mother, she enjoyed being a member of the Newry Mother’s Club. Her hobbies included sewing clothes and stuffed animals. She was an avid reader and enjoyed canning, freezing and pickling produce from her family garden.

Eleanor’s favorite activity was visiting with her friends, neighbors and relatives. Before a series of small strokes dimmed her outgoing personality, she could seldom be found at home if there was someone she could pass the day with. She traveled to Texas frequently to visit her brother and nieces, and to Nova Scotia on rock collecting trips with her husband.

Many thanks to the staff at Rumford Community Home for the fine care they took of our beloved mother during her stay there.

Eleanor is survived by her husband Norman, her daughter Wendy and her husband Brian Hanscom, Kenneth Davis and his partner Ann Vachon, her brother E. Warren Hunter, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers Wendell and Gary Holmes.

There will be a graveside service at the Powers Cemetery in Newry on Saturday, November 23 at 11am.
