Florence L. Merrill, 79 of Bethel, died in Rumford on September 28, 2019. She was born on January 18, 1940 the daughter of the late George Herman Merrill and Lula Evelyn Garey and was educated in Bethel schools and graduated from Gould Academy. Florence served her country in the U.S. Army from 1958-1965. She had worked at Newton Tibbetts for 23 years as a safety director, J.A. Thurston and the Bethel Ambulance.
Florence loved to hunt. Fish, do wood crafts and in her younger days she was very athletic and played basketball, volleyball, softball, field hockey and bowling. She was also a member of the American Legion of Bethel.
Florence is survived by her sister Alma Merrill; nephews Preston (Jeanine) Merrill, Jimmy (Stacy) Merrill, Ricky (partner Alexandra) Merrill and Mark Merrill; and nieces Barb (Ralph) Horne, Donna (Bryan) Lapham, Shirley (Steve) Walker and Sonya Merrill. She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers George and Warren.
Services will be held at the Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 16 Church Street, Bethel on Friday October 4th at 10 AM with burial to follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery, West Bethel. Arrangements by Cliff Gray Cremation & Funeral Services, 60 Andrews Road, Bryant Pond, Maine
