George J. Royer
1959-2021
Bangor, Maine
George J. Royer passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Bangor, ME.
He was born on November 22, 1959 in Lewiston, the son of Rudolph and Jo-Ann Roderick Royer. George
was born with Prader Willi Syndrome and lived in a Prader Willi group home in Hampden, Maine. He
resided there for 15 years with three other housemates. George and his housemates had a strong family
bond and really took care of each other. He had a caregiver’s heart and was frequently moved to pray
for others. One of his greatest gifts in life was his infectious sense of humor, which came from his
grandfather Richmond “Joe” Roderick. On a moment’s notice, he could act out any line of a movie or
family story and have you in hysterics. Some of his favorite pastimes were horror movies, word
searches, puzzles, paint by numbers, and 50’s music. George had a love for his many nieces, nephews,
and animals, especially dogs and cats. For over 20 years, he enjoyed the loving companionship of his
girlfriend, Jane. His family, roommates, staff at the home, and his girlfriend, Jane, will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his mother, Jo-Ann Royer, his brother Rod Royer and wife Jenna of Norway, ME two
sisters, Deborah Beatty of York, ME, Susanne McCarron of Dover, NH and many nieces and nephews. He
was predeceased by his father, Rudolph E. Royer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Jo-Ann Royer, 6 Spring Street, So. Paris, ME
04281, to be used for renovations at George’s group home in Hampden, ME. A private family service will
be held at a later
