Luna Akers

Luna Akers, 99 of Bethel and formerly of South Paris, died on November 24, 2018 at the Norway Center for Living, where she had been a resident for the past 16 months. She was born in Milton Plantation on July 27, 1919 the daughter of Jairus and Jennie (Bryant) Billings and was educated in local schools. Luna had worked as a certified nursed aid at Market Square Health Care as weall as several local wood mills in the area. Luna was an active member of the Norway-Paris and Bethel senior citizen’s clubs, a member of Deering Methodist and Bethel United Methodist Church and loved to travel and site see and had visited most states including Hawaii with her daughter Gerry. Luna loved to walk for her health and was well known at both Oxford Hills and Telstar High Schools where she walked thousands of miles. She is survived by 3 sons-Howard Akers of West Paris, Herschel Akers and his wife Cheryl of Johnstown New York and Dexter Akers and his wife Milly of Bethel; 15 grandchildren-Karon Wing, Stephen Akers, Kathrine Hunt, Henry “Hank” Brown, Julie Verrill, Tanya Bouchard, Wendy Kwitkowski, Blair Akers, Michelle Hale, Jeffrey Akers, Kalynda Gaudreau, Jeromy Akers, Tim Akers, Nichole Thornburgh and Katrina Akers; 38 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Mrs. Gregory “Micheala” Akers as well as many other beloved nieces, nephews and close friends.. She was predeceased by one son Gregory Akers of Palm Coast Florida in 2017; one daughter Geraldine Brown in 2000; two brothers-Gerald Billings and Lloyd Billings; one sister Ola Miele; one granddaughter Donna Knightly and daughter-in-law Patricia Akers.
Funeral services for Luna will be held at the Bethel United Methodist Church Main Street Bethel on Saturday, December 15th at 1 PM. Burial will be at the Riverside Annex Cemetery South Paris in the spring at a time to be announced by Cliff Gray Cremation and Funeral Services, 60 Andrews Road, Bryant Pond.
