Richard Melville life time resident of Locke Mills, Maine passed away 10/31/23 after a long battle with kidney disease. Richard aka Dick, Battie, Grampa, Great Grampa and Great, Great Grampa was born 12/29/1930 son of Charles and Mildred Newell Melville. He graduated from Gould Academy and served our country in the Navy as a radio man during the Korean war. Dick was an industrial salesman and traveled throughout Maine during his career. Dick was a member of the American Legion, the Jefferson Lodge and Greenwood Historical Society. He was recently honored with the “Spirit of America Award” for his community service including his work as a member of the Board of Assessment Review, School Board Director, and Western Hills Access Television Committee. He married Beverly in 1953 when they built their home in Locke Mills. Dick and Bev enjoyed travel, camping, family events and their beloved Bouvier dogs. Dick was very active in his church enjoying special events like the strawberry festival and Christmas Cantata and had served as Sunday School Superintendent and Trustee. Dick was very proud of his Penobscot Indian heritage.
Dick leaves his wife of 70 years, Beverly, his siblings Owen, Skip, and Carolyn; his children, son Dana and wife Mary and daughter Nancy. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild as well as many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
The family wishes a heartfelt thank you to all his friends, neighbors, and staff at Clover who made a difference in his life. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
