Stanley Joseph Sobocinski, age 82, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025 in the Andwell Hospice House, Auburn, Maine. He was born May 28, 1943, to the late Stanley and Wanda (Perlowski) Sobocinski.
Stanley was born and raised in Milford CT, but retired to his favorite vacation destination and had lived in Hanover Maine since 2005.
Stanley enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and served in 1st Squadron of the 9th Cavalry in South Korea. Following his honorable discharge in 1965, Stanley first worked as a carpenter with the Sobocinski brothers builders. After carpentry, he put his “fix it” skills to work installing complicated telephone systems for Northeastern Te, Greenwood, lephone, which was acquired and changed hands many times during his 26 ½ year career.
His retirement years were well spent traveling with his wife of 59 years (Ruth) visiting all 50 states and seeing most of the national parks in the US. He also spent time fishing, although what he actually caught was always a story up for debate. Prior to retiring, he also enjoyed hunting as a member of the Housatonic Rod and Gun (Milford CT) club, with his late brother-in-law. Although many of his trusted hunting dogs possibly brought home more pheasants than they did.
He was engaged in his community, being a continuous member of The American Legion for 52 years, active with the Bethel Seniors, enjoyed spending time with his neighbors and looked forward to bingo nights, even though his wife typically won more often than he did.
Stanley is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Ann (Astriab), his daughter Amy (who clearly inherited, and feels obligated to share, his dry sense of humor) and her husband Ronald Borecki, as well as his cherished granddaughters Alexis and Ashley Borecki.
Services will be held on Thursday September 4th at the Jackson Silver Post, Gore Road Greenwood. Burial will be at the Hicks Cemetery, Greenwood.
Arrangements by Cliff Gray Cremation & Funeral Services, Bryant Pond.
