Robert Henry Johns Jr. died May 15, 2021 at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. He was born in Melrose, MA on January 10, 1934 the son of Robert Henry Johns Sr. and Helen (Dunn) Johns.
For the first few years he lived with his parents in Malden, MA. Where he started school. In 1943 he moved with his family to Stoneham, MA where he attended the Seventh-day Adventist church school. in 1948 he and his family moved to South Lancaster, MA where he attended Seventh-day Adventist Church and later attended South Lancaster Academy, graduating in 1953. He attended the school of X-Ray at the New England Sanitarium and Hospital in Stoneham MA from 1953-1954. After completing his training he was employed in the X-Ray Department at Leominster MA until 1956 when he entered the United States Army, working in X-Ray department at Army hospitals. After discharge from the Army in 1958 he spent a few months in California before returning to South Lancaster, MA where he lived with his parents and returned to working at yhe Leominster Hospital.
On January 14, 1961 he married Clara Alice Hammond, living in South Lancaster until September 1963 when they moved to Stoneham, MA, where they both were employed at the new England Sanitarium and Hospital and later at the Boston Regional Medical Center, where he retired from the X-Ray Department in 1999 and moved to West Paris, Maine.
They were members of the Woodstock Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Robert and Clara had adopted two newborn infants, a daughter Beth Elaine who died at eleven months of age at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1967 while undergoing heart surgery; and a son Kent David who died in 1997 at 29 years of age of cancer at Massachusetts General Hospital. Robert was also predeceased by his wife Clara (Hammond) Johns on January 15, 2020.
He is survived by a sister and her husband Arlene and Vernon Jensen of Minnesota, a brother-in-law Raymond Hammond and his wife Marilyn; a sister-in-law Carlene Turner and her husband Maynard; nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces as well as friends and other family members who are related by marriage.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Veterans Home for the care and kindness shown Robert during his stay.
Funeral services will be held at the Woodstock Seventh-day Adventist Church on Sunday May 23rd at 2 PM with Pastor Steve Dayen officiating.
Arrangements by Cliff Gray Cremation and Funeral Services, 60 Andrews Road, Bryant Pond. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in East Sumner
